As one of Watford best driving schools (DVSA Grade A), we are understandably proud of our instructors track record. We have taught 100's of pupils since 2002 and have a high pass rate of 100%* (*September 2021 to September 2022)
We only use fully qualified Grade A driving instructors for manual driving lessons
- First 4 hours are £140 see terms & conditions
- £80 for 2 hours - £62 for 90 mins
- £43 for a 1 hour lesson but we highly recommend doing 90 or 120 minute lessons
- 10 hours advance payment for £350 saving £50 based on the single hourly rate*

However, to us, you are not a statistic. Teaching a person to drive is a very personal thing; everybody is different. Our pass rates are high because we understand and respect 'your needs' and adapt our approach to suit 'you.'

The professional driving instructors at 1st Gear Driving School are experts in helping people take their first steps in venturing on our roads. Each person has their own comfort and ability levels. We work with you in a thoughtful and sensitive manner, to bring you up to driving test standards - at your own pace.
The roads in and around Watford are very busy and challenging places to drive, so taking your first driving lessons with a professional driving instructor is very important. This ensures you develop the right attitude and skills from day one.
First time drivers aren't the only people we help. You may feel the time has come to improve or refresh your driving skills. You may have been involved in an accident and, understandably, become a little nervous. You may naturally be a nervous driver. Whatever your situation, we can help you.
Our driving instructors are fully trained and experienced. We were awarded GRADE A our last Standards Check by the DVSA (2018). We are members of the DIA.
Our driving school cars are fitted with dual controls which means the driving instructor can take over if needed. This can be a great comfort to new or inexperienced drivers. Our cars are all air conditioned too, providing a cool, calm and relaxed environment in which to learn.
